Re: broke down and bought that 7 walkers cd#48645 2 years, 8 months agoI got to see 7 Walkers before they even called themselves "7 Walkers."
Back in May of 2009 right after the Dead tour, over Memorial Day weekend there was a festival in Missiouri called Schwagstock. They played there. They announced it as Papi Mali featuring Bill Kreutzmann. I thought that show was real great! They played lots of dead tunes. I know for sure it was Matt Hubbard, Billy, Hutch Hutchinson, and Papa Mali that played that night. I love Matt Hubbard I think hes a real awesome musician! I think I saw him playing 4 or 5 different intrusments that night!
I got to see 7 Walkers back in April when they rolled through town. So lucky to have them come to town but I felt their 2009 performance was way better then this years performance. But it also could have been the atmosphere. Small enclosed venue verus outdoors dancing in the field And maybe it had to do with the different bass players. I'm not sure but I do like George Porter too! He's a real sweet man.
Heres the link of the Papa Mali featuring Bill K Schwagstock May 2009 performance from archive. It is a soundboard recording also.

Re: broke down and bought that 7 walkers cd#48658 2 years, 8 months agoThat really is a great CD. I saw them live at Wanee from right up front and they were a lot of fun. George Porter wasn't there on bass and instead they had a dude playing sousaphone (it's like a tuba) through a Marshall amp with effects pedals. It looked weird but he did a great job of laying down the bass line. The whole band was like a sloppy New Orleans garage band. They went on after midnight and played really loose, with a lot of spirit. I'd go see them again.Without love day to day insanity's king
